Sunny Deol, in a recent interview, shared that he didn’t get good work even after Gadar: Ek Prem Katha‘s success at the box office.

    Sunny-Deol-Gadar

Sunny Deol is on cloud nine. His latest release Gadar 2 has emerged as the third highest grossing Hindi film of all time and still continues to mint money at the ticket counters. While the Anil Sharma directorial is slowly inching towards Rs 500-Crore mark, Sunny in a recent interview, walked down the memory.

The Damini actor left everyone surprised when he opened up on his struggling phase post the release of Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and shared that he wasn’t getting much work despite the cross-border romance’s blockbuster success at the box office.

Sunny told BBC UK, “Before that (Gadar), I had no issues. I wasn’t getting much work even when it (Gadar) was a much-appreciated film of the century. Elaborating on the same, the actor said, “The Hindi film industry was undergoing changes, transforming into what we currently know as Bollywood. With corporates overtaking, everything became quarterly calculated which lead to fewer projects.”

The actor said that now that when he looked back, he realised he existed because of the work he’s done. Sunny shared during the conversation that back then post Gadar, he wasn’t doing ‘anything great’ or wasn’t part of any ‘popular cinema’.

He said that he never worked with ‘big people or big companies’ as he didn’t relate to them and vice versa. Instead, he chose to team up with upcoming directors in whom he saw a ‘drive’ and added that it’s heartwarming how those same people are so happy for him today.

On being asked the reason behind what made him open up about his hard times now, the actor said, “Because he is happy.” Further, Sunny told the interviewer that everyone goes through highs and lows, and he’s someone who believes in letting go of the bad times and remembering and cherishing the good ones. “It happens with everyone. The world is like that,” the actor reasoned.

Speaking about Gadar 2, the film had Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel reprising their roles of Tara Singh and Sakina respectively. It also featured Utkarsh Sharma, Simrat Kaur and Manish Wadhwa in pivotal roles.
