Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya movie review: Shahid Kapoor-Kriti Sanon’s romantic comedy suffers from too many glitches despite some sizzling chemistry.

Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Dimple Kapadia, Dharmendra, Ashish Verma, Rakesh Bedi, Anubha Fatehpuria, Rajesh Kumar
    Director: Amit Joshi, Aradhana Sah
    Writers: Amit Joshi, Aradhana Sah

In one of the scenes in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, Aryan (Shahid Kapoor) walks up to Sifra (Kriti Sanon), apologizes to her for his previous rude behaviour and sighs, “Someday, it will make sense.” How we wished we could say the same about this Shahid Kapoor-Kriti Sanon film which ends up with too many unresolved issues!

    What’s Yay: Kriti Sanon, Songs
What’s Nay: Inconsistent screenplay, Mundane execution

    Story
Do early morning dreams come true? Well, it does for Aryan (Shahid Kapoor), a shaadi-phobic, eligible bachelor who is a robotics engineer by profession. His aunt Urmila (Dimple Kapadia) is a super creator of sorts who heads a fancy robotics lab in the US. We are told, it’s in their ‘genes’.

After accepting an invitation from her to check out her latest ‘project’, Aryan lands up there where he gets introduced to Sifra (Kriti Sanon), Urmila’s manager. ‘Electric’ sparks flow and eventually, our hero falls for her after some ‘technical’ flirting only to realize that he was tricked into a testing process by his dear maasi-ji. Sifra turns out to be a robot.

Nevertheless, Aryan declares, “Mere man me Sifra ke liye feelings develop ho gayi hai aur ye janne ke baad bhi ki woh robot hai wo jaa nahin rahi.” Our lover boy decides to get hitched to his robot-girlfriend. Yes, you heard that right! But, will it be a smooth ride for him with his ‘Great Indian Family’ in the picture?

    Direction
A man falls in love with a female humanoid. As a one-liner, the idea might sound appealing, but writer-duo Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah who have also directed the film, restrict that fun only to paper. The story-telling in Teri Baaton Mein Aise Uljha Jiya comes across as mechanical. It appears as if the makers sat with a manual and just kept ticking off things one after the other without caring to tie the loose ends. As a result of this, everything feels programmed.

One constantly needs to recharge their attention batteries in the slow-paced fast half. While the lead pair raises up the heat with their hotness quotient, their love story barely captures your processing unit (heart); blame it on the writing which lacks conviction.

Post interval, Amit and Aradhana try to make you go giga-giggle in a sitcom way. Sadly, it only works in small ‘bytes’. There is a power surge ala ‘dhak-dhak’ style just before you reach the conclusion. And then, boom, they serve you a rushed end that results into a major hardware crash.

    Performances
    Shahid Kapoor
breezes through his part despite some bots in the writing. His charismatic smile and fluid dance movements make you swoon over him. Playing Aryan is a cakewalk for him and he has you under his control from the first frame till the last.

You can’t resist Kriti Sanon’s ‘electric’ charm and she makes sure that you stay connected to the server (film) with her compelling performance. Her efforts on her body language and voice modulation to play a robot is visible on screen. Dimple Kapadia lends some sass despite getting a poorly-sketched character. Dharmendra delivers a peak performance even in his limited screen time.

The rest of the cast including Ashish Verma, Rakesh Bedi, Anubha Fatehpuria and Rajesh Kumar try to make the most out of what’s given to them. Unfortunately, there are too many loose nuts and bolts on their way.

    Technical Aspects
Laxman Utekar’s camera does a smooth job on the picturesque locations and the good-looking lead pair. Manish Pradhan’s editing also works fine for the film.

    Music
Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya gets its algorithm right when it comes to the music department. While ‘Akhiyaan Gulaab’ and the title track have already taken the Instagram reels by storm, ‘Laal Peeli Ankhiyaan’ too has some peppy moments to lit up the frame. ‘Tum Se’ also makes for a sweet listen.

    Verdict
Despite Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon’s earnest efforts, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya lets you down with its programming errors (faulty writing and execution). We ain’t saying ‘theek hain’ to this one!
