Dhurandhar 2: Choreographer Vijay Ganguly Reveals Why The Film Avoided A Dance Number Like ‘Shararat’

Choreographer Vijay Ganguly explained why Dhurandhar 2 avoided a celebratory dance number like ‘Shararat’, and highlighted Aditya Dhar’s focus on story over spectacle.

Why There Is No Song Like Shararat In Dhurandhar 2

When Dhurandhar hit the big screens, its song ‘Shararat’ featuring Ayesha Khan and Krystle D’Souza became a big hit. It was fun, celebratory, and part of the wedding sequence in the film. So naturally, fans expected something similar in Dhurandhar 2 (Dhurandhar: The Revenge). However, the film arrived without any similar high-energy dance number.

In a recent interaction with India Today, Vijay Ganguly shared that the absence of such a song in Dhurandhar 2 was intentional.

He explained that the film had originally been conceived as a single story, with all the songs placed in the first half and the second half designed to focus entirely on revenge. According to him, Dhurandhar 2 was always meant to carry that tone, leaving no natural space for a celebratory track.

He pointed out that the first part had a wedding sequence, which allowed for a joyful moment, but the second part was marked by constant tension from beginning to end. Inserting a random song, he felt, would have disrupted the narrative.

Ganguly added that songs only work when they are organically woven into the script; if they are included merely for promotional purposes, they rarely connect with audiences.

The choreographer reflected on why ‘Shararat’ had struck such a chord with audiences, noting that the song worked because it was woven into the story rather than feeling like a pause in the narrative.

He explained that a lot was happening within the sequence, which helped move the plot forward and made it connect with viewers. In contrast, he said that Part 2 offered no such scope, and he was relieved they had not forced a celebratory track into the film, since audiences would likely have questioned its placement.

He further credited Aditya Dhar’s clarity for shaping the film’s unconventional approach, including its restrained promotional strategy.

According to him, the director believed that story and narrative were more important than market trends, and that honesty in storytelling was the only way to draw audiences to theatres. At a time when viewers are accustomed to one‑minute reels, Dhar had managed to hold them through a four‑hour film.

Ganguly added that this conviction was the reason Dhar resisted pressure to include songs or follow traditional promotional routes. Even the marketing was minimal, limited to a teaser and a trailer, with no song releases- a strategy that had also been applied to Part 1.

In his view, Dhar was redefining how films are presented with Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar 2.

Dhurandhar 2 is running successfully in cinema halls. Headlined by Ranveer Singh, the film’s powerful cast and Aditya Dhar’s effective storytelling have made it one of Bollywood’s biggest blockbusters of 2026.
