Composer Mithoon shared that he had initially planned to rope in a new voice for Saiyaara’s Dhun song before getting Arijit Singh onboard.
Mohit Suri’s musical romantic drama Saiyaara, led by debutant Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda has struck a chord with the Gen-Z crowd and emerged as the second highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025. Despite new releases, the film continues to have a good run in cinema halls and has already crossed Rs 300-Crore mark at the box office.
The film’s soundtrack has also turned out to be a rage with the audience. Recently in a chat with Times Now, music composer Mithoon, who composed one of the songs ‘Dhun’ for the film, shared an interesting trivia about it.
Mithoon revealed that he had initially planned to bring a new voice for ‘Dhun’ song since it was the lead actor Ahaan Panday’s first screen appearance.
He said, “I decided to bring Arijit, at the last minute, on this particular song. We wanted to bring a new voice for this film earlier, especially with Ahaan coming on the screen for the first time. Since it (the film) had a new actor, we didn’t think of attaching an established voice to it, to bring out the freshness of the character. I had even delivered the song to Yash Raj. After that, I was travelling and so was Mohit. Just before leaving, I happened to see the video of the song.”

Speaking about what changed his mind, he continued, “When I saw the way Mohit had shot it and the way the film and Ahaan were looking, I immediately felt we should bring Arijit for this song. And the reason for that is—if you see Ahaan’s character, that man behaves like a star even before he is a star. He doesn’t behave like a newcomer. He owns the stage as if he owns that moment and the world stage, thinking that he is born to shine.”
Further, Mithoon felt that a new voice’s vulnerability wouldn’t suit Ahaan’s character in the film.
“We have to bring in somebody who knows what he is and somebody who feels that he already owns the world. And for that, I felt there is nobody better than Arijit in India right now. That’s why I called him up, we worked on the song, jammed on it an we got it done,” he was quoted as saying by the news portal.
Saiyaara revolves around Krish, a troubled musician and Vaani, a heartbroken poet who find healing and inspiration through a soulful collaboration, and end up forging a bond that reshapes their lives.
