Mohit Suri, in a new interview, revealed why he didn’t go with Arijit Singh for Saiyaara’s title song.

Mohit Suri’s Aashiqui 2 (2013) gave rise to a new singing sensation- Arijit Singh who soon went on to become one of the most sought-after singers in Bollywood. Therefore, fans were quite surprised when the filmmaker chose a new voice, Faheem Abdullah for Saiyaara’s hit title song instead of the ‘Tum Hi Ho’ singer.

In a recent chat with NDTV post Saiyaara’s success, Mohit Suri explained his decision of placing his bet on a new talent for the now-viral song despite his iconic association with Arijit Singh.

The director was quoted as saying, “Arijit represents a cinema that I did 14 years ago. I love Arijit, I did use him in one song. But when I was looking for Arijit… I love KK sir, but that wasn’t Emraan Hashmi for me in those early films. Then I found Arijit. So only when you seek, shall you find the answer.”

He continued, “I am sick that way. I’m constantly looking for new voices, constantly at it. I thought Faheem was the voice I wanted for Ahaan. You need to keep searching because that’s what keeps you relevant. Otherwise, you’re just living off yesterday’s success.”

While stressing on the importance of taking creative risks, especially with new talent, the Zeher director stated, “Even when I was talking to Akshaye [Widhani, YRF CEO], I said, you have to give yourself room to fail. Failing with someone established is far scarier it means your fundamentals have changed. But failing with someone new? That’s not that bad. At least you tried something different.”

Meanwhile, Saiyaara’s title track continues to rule over music charts even after weeks post release. The film which marked the acting debut of Ahaan Panday opposite Aneet Padda, has emerged as one of the biggest box office successes of this year.
