Richa Chadha, in a new interview, recalled how she was once approached to play Hrithik Roshan’s mother on screen. The actress said that the casting director never called her again after she turned down the film offer.

Richa Chadha has managed to left a lasting impression on the audience with her some of her acclaimed films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Masaan, to name a few. But do you know the actress was once offered the role of Hrithik Roshan‘s mother despite him being older than her?

Recalling the incident in a chat with ABP Live, the ‘Shakeela’ actress highlighted how it is unfair to older artists who already have limited work coming their way.

On being asked if she was upset with the cast director who offered her that role, Richa said, “Yes, because I was 21 years old. But someone had told him that I play the role of older women nicely. So without thinking, he just offered me the role. Later, the actor who actually played that part is a very good artist. So I felt that this is wrong that you are taking young and attractive actors and ageing them.”

The actress said that she felt it was not only unfair to her but also to the older actors, who she felt fit that role better than her.

“Not only are you doing a disservice to a young actor, you are also taking away an older actor’s part which is already shrinking,” Richa told the portal.

She further revealed that she refused to take up the role on moral ground following which that casting director never called her again.

When pointed out how she played an older girl in Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs Of Wasseypur, Richa justified it by saying that her character wasn’t the only one that aged in the film.

The actress explained, “In Gangs of Wasseypur, I never felt that I would be singled out. Everyone’s story was 30-40 years ahead. They didn’t put any spotlight on me. Call it our industry’s sexism or society’s sexism, they highlighted it. The truth is that Manoj Bajpayee, Huma Qureshi, Piyush Mishra, all of them had undergone ageing in that film.”

On the work front, Richa Chadha was last seen in Fukrey 3. Her next is Anubhav Sinha’s Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai.
