Konkona Sen Sharma got nostalgic as her film, Wake Up Sid co-starring Ranbir Kapoor completed 14 years.
Ayan Mukerji’s 2009 coming-of-age film Wake Up Sid starring Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma clocked 14 years on Monday (October 2, 2023). The acclaimed romantic drama is still remembered for Ranbir-Konkona’s fresh chemistry and hit songs like ‘Iktara’.
On the 14th anniversary of Wake Up Sid, Konkona Sen Sharma in a chat with Filmfare, walked down the memory lane and shared some fond memories associated with the film.
When asked to pick up her favourite scene from the Ranbir starrer, Konkona shared, “My favourite scene is the birthday cake Sid makes for Aisha, it is the sweetest thing. The bread and jam cake with that little candle on top. “You me and a cup of Chai”, that’s what Sid always says to Aisha, it’s my favourite scene. Thanks to Aisha I got to see a lot of South Bombay. Chor Bazaar and Asiatic Library and all. Aisha was interested in all of that and because I had just moved to Mumbai a few years back, thanks to her I got to see the city a lot.”
Talking about her co-star Ranbir Kapoor, the actress said that they first met while rehearsing for the film and shared an easy equation. She was also all praise for the film’s director Ayan Mukerji.
“Ayan was good with the preparation. Credit goes to him because he did such a fantastic job of writing the characters and making them come alive. I remember we used to talk about what books Aisha may have read, coming up with a background story together. Those days, there were CDs, and he gave me a CD of Aisha’s favourite songs, the old movie songs,” Konkona told the publication.
When asked what would be her image of Sid and Aisha if the film gets a sequel in today’s times, she replied, “Realistically, because everyone has that one big romance in their life. Not everyone marries their first love which can be a good or a bad thing. I think it’ll be fun to see if there is a sequel, they are with other people and they meet again and they have that one interesting conversation. A whole Before Sunrise and Before Sunset scene. That would be interesting.”
Wake Up Sid tells the story of an unambitious brat who is compelled to reevaluate his choices when a female aspiring writer enters his life.
