Vishal Bhardwaj, in a new interview, shared that he was unsure about Kaminey‘s success as his team was facing difficulty in getting along with each other while shooting for the film.
When it comes to Vishal Bhardwaj, the filmmaker has always managed to impress with his acclaimed outings. Who can forget his 2009 action flick which featured Shahid Kapoor in dual roles and Priyanka Chopra as the leading lady!
The film upon its release had garnered a lot of appreciation from every nook and corner. Recently, in a chat for the YouTube channel Unfiltered by Samdish, when Vishal was asked about his ability to gauge a film’s success when it’s in the making, he revealed that his prediction went awry with his 2009 film Kaminey which he felt won’t work at the box office. Reason? The team didn’t get along well with each other.
The ‘Maqbool’ director shared, “Haan while making a film, you get to know. But one or two times I was wrong, when I thought the film won’t but it worked. This was the case with Kaminey. While making the film, I was feeling like how will we do this.”
He continued, “There was so much conflict between Director of Photography (DOP) and the cast, between DOP and the production and between production designer and the production. It was chaos of some another level. Every day after reaching the set for an hour and a half, I had to see what is the new problem of this day.”
However, Vishal Bhardwaj‘s prediction for this film turned out to be wrong and Kaminey turned out to be a massive success and even picked up two National Awards.
Set against the backdrop of Mumbai underworld, Kaminey told the story of how the lives of two estranged twin brothers, one with a lisp and the other with a stutter, converge over missing drugs, politics, racial prejudice, corrupt cops and an unplanned pregnancy.
