Vikrant Massey opened up on how he prepped for his character of a serial killer in the Netflix film, Sector 36.
After his impressive simpleton act in last year’s sleeper hit, Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail, Vikrant Massey is seen going the dark and deranged way in his latest release, Sector 36. Based on the infamous Nithari serial killings that transpired in Noida, Uttar Pradesh in 2006, the Aditya Nimbalkar directorial features the actor as a psychopathic killer.
In a recent interview with The Hindu, Vikrant talked about how he prepped to get into the skin of his character. He said that since Sector 36 is inspired by many true stories, there was a lot of reference work for him.
The ‘Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba’ actor shared, “There’s one book that I had to read, Inside the Minds of Serial Killers: Why They Kill, which is about the psyche of some famous serial killers. I also spent time talking to my director and my writer (Bodhayan Roychaudhury). It was a complicated yet fun process that lasted 40-45 days.”
On being asked to name the best serial killer film according to him, Vikrant picked up David Fincher’s Se7en.
Explaining the reason behind the same, he said, “It came at a time when I had just made up my mind about wanting to be an actor, and a lot of people around me were talking about that movie. Though the Kevin Spacey character comes in pretty late, we know there’s a killer on the loose. The build-up to what is going to happen is pretty intense. It’s one film that definitely had an impact on me.”
Vikrant’s last theatrical release, 12th Fail earned his appreciation from every nook and corner.
While talking about the most gratifying aspect of that success, the actor said, “There is a lot more money coming in and I am certainly enjoying that. Frankly speaking, who doesn’t love money? I love money. A lot of people say that money cannot buy you happiness. I think that’s quite untrue. Money can buy you confidence and that confidence can buy you happiness. So I see it in a different way.
Vikrant told the publication that after 12th Fail, a lot more people from the film industry are keen to work for him, and added, “There is increased respect and trust. But beyond that, in my internal life and in my immediate surroundings, including amongst my family and friends, not a lot has changed. I can still rely on them.”
Coming back to Vikrant’s latest release, Sector 36, the crime thriller is currently streaming on Netflix. It also features Deepak Dobriyal in a pivotal role.
