A quick look at Vikram’s filmography will tell you that the Tamil star has never shied away from undergoing drastic physical transformations for some of his characters on screen. In a recent chat with a news portal, the ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ star talked about this thing about him had nearly caused permanent damage to his body.

Vikram revealed that after shooting for his 1992 hit film, Kasi in which he played the role of a blind singer, he couldn’t see for two-three months. The actor shared with Pinkvilla, “When I did Kasi, I couldn’t see for two to three months because I had my eye lids up all the time. I was at the risk of getting a squint eye.”

He also talked about how he came to close to an organ failure after shooting for Shankar’s 2015 film, I. The film revolves around a bodybuilder-turned supermodel who transforms into a deformed hunchback through an virus injected in him.

“When I did ‘I’, I did drastic changes. My weight got down to 52 kg at the that time from 86 kg. I wanted to get down to 50 kg but my doctor said, ‘Go easy let’s not get excited for this because I can see perimeters changing a bit and if main organ fails then it may be a problem, we don’t know how to revive you.’ Then I stopped,” he told the publication.

Vikram further admitted that despite such health risks, he enjoys taking up roles that are far different from his real-life personality.

He said, “It’s my passion for acting and cinema. I want to do something out of ordinary. I don’t drink and smoke but life is my poison. I get a high when I perform.”

Speaking about films, Vikram was recently seen in Pa Ranjith’s action adventure, Thangalaan. The film, based on true events, explores the struggles faced by an oppressed tribal community during the British Raj and how they relentlessly fight against it. Co-starring Malavika Mohanan, here too, the actor underwent significant physical transformations to play three different characters.
