Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor’s much anticipated film, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar released in cinema halls on Holi, Wednesday (March 8, 2023). The Luv Ranjan-directorial registered good advance bookings and saw an upward trend in its ticket sales throughout the day due to positive to mixed reviews from the critics.

Reportedly, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar had a slow start in areas where Holi was celebrated yesterday but it soon gained momentum. By the end of the day, the Ranbir-Shraddha starrer recorded the second-best opening for a Bollywood film after Shah Rukh Khan’s espionage thriller, Pathaan this year.

According to a report in Sacnik, Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor starrer Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar minted Rs 15.73 Crore on its first day of release.

Further, trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar does very well on Day 1. Got a boost due to Holi festivities in several states but lost out on a substantial chunk of biz where Holi was celebrated a day early (Mumbai, working day). Wednesday ₹ 15.73 crore. India biz.”

Prior the film’s release, Ranbir Kapoor had told Gulf News in an interview, “You know after my film Bachna Ae Haseeno came out, I got this tag of being this Casanova and it went on for a long period in my life and now with Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar [TJMK] and its new song ‘Pyaar Hota Kai Baar Hai’, a lot of people think it’s my biopic and I am celebrating my life through this film, but it’s nothing of that kind.”

He had further added, “But remember we are just playing parts here and the song doesn’t really reflect who you are as a person. Having said that, the character I play in ‘TJMK’ is someone I would like to aspire to become in my own life. I believe in his morals, I believe in his makkari [wickedness] too.”

Besides Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar also features Anubhav Singh Bassi, Dimple Kapadia and Boney Kapoor in pivotal roles.
