In a recent interview, director Sriram Raghavan opened up on the failure of his 2012 Saif Ali Khan-Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer Agent Vinod.

Director Sriram Raghavan is known for making for some edge-of-the-seat thrillers like Johnny Gaddar, Ek Hasina Thi, Andhadhun. However, his 2012 espionage thriller, Agent Vinod turned out to be a complete miss which came across a huge disappointment to the critics as well as the fans.

In a recent chat with Galatta Plus, the filmmaker revealed the reason why the Saif Ali Khan-Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer bombed at the box office. Raghavan said that he feels that the film should have focused more on the story than the sequences.

He said, “One mistake I made is to take it for granted that the story is not vital, the sequences are vital. I mean if you take Octopussy, what is the story of Octopussy? I’ll get lost somewhere in between but watching it is great fun. But that approach is good for a Bond (film) which is already a franchise. Saif and me, we made the mistake of… we should have been making the first Bond, Dr No, which is a fairly realistic film in its own way.”

Sriram told the portal that even though no one discusses Agent Vinod when he is invited to give lectures, he still likes to talk about the film. He also admitted that Agent Vinod wasn’t as good as it should have been.

Further, during the course of the interview, the Ek Hasina Thi director revealed that it was Saif who had the title of the film and he instantly loved it thinking that it would make for a nice camp movie. However according to the filmmaker, instead of being a ‘heady cocktail,’ Agent Vinod turned out to be a ‘headache’ and became ‘exhausting’. Sriram said that the film has still terrific sequences and that he enjoys watching some of them.

Agent Vinod revolves around a RAW agent’s voyage through the maze of conspiracies to create a global unrest.

Meanwhile, Sriram Raghavan’s next is Vijay Sethupathi-Katrina Kaif starrer Merry Christmas.
