Nikhhil Advani’s directorial debut Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) enjoys a huge fanbase even today. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan in leading roles, the love triangle never fails to tear us up every time the climax plays on screen. The ending has Shah Rukh Khan‘s character Aman succumbing to a rare illness, and the Bollywood superstar absolutely nailed his emotions in that bit.

Delnaaz Irani who essayed the role of Naina (Preity Zinta)’s bestie Sweetie in this romantic drama, in a recent chat with Bollywood Hungama shared that the atmosphere on the film’s set while filming this sequence was so intense that nobody required glycerin to cry.

The actress recalled, “The last scene, Aman’s death scene, I clearly remember I had a TV shoot scheduled. We used to have combination shoots, so I asked my director if I could get a day off. He said, ‘Look, Delnaaz, this is a very big sequence, the most important part of the film, and I need you in this scene.”

Delnaaz told the publication that she was so determined to be a part of this pivotal moment that she rearranged her schedule to be a part of that climax.

“I made sure that somehow I made things work out and was there for that shot,” she recalled.

Speaking about the emotions that poured out during the shoot, she shared, “Oh, I’m so glad I made sure I was a part of Aman’s big death scene, which was so crucial to the film. The actors present in that scene made it complete. The atmosphere was so real that none of the actors used glycerin—everyone was actually crying, which made the whole scene very memorable.”

Kal Ho Naa Ho revolves around an introvert girl who falls for her charismatic new neighbour, unaware that he has a secret of his own that could change their lives forever. The romantic drama is set to re-release in theatres today 21 years after its initial release.
