Randeep Hooda followed a rigorous diet and lost a whopping 26 kg to play Vinayak Damodar Savarkar on screen.
Randeep Hooda is one of the few actors who has never shied away from undergoing massive body transformation on screen. Remember how he literally starved himself for his role in Omung Kumar’s 2016 film Sarbjit? Well, the actor once again walked the same route for his upcoming biopic on freedom fighter Veer Savarkar.
Recently, in a chat with ETimes, the film’s producer Anand Pandit revealed that Randeep underwent a strict diet to shed off 26 kgs for his role in Swatantrya Veer Savarkar. He was quoted as saying by the publication, “When he (Randeep) came to my office with Sandeep Singh, he was 86 kg. He was so involved in the character and to date that to essay it on screen. He said that he won’t leave any stone unturned. He had only one khajoor and a glass of milk for four months until the shooting got over.”
Pandit shared that the actor also shaved off his hair at the exact same portions where his character Veer Savarkar had no hair.
Previously, in an interview with a leading tabloid, Randeep had admitted that such kind of extreme transformations can take a toil on one’s health which is why he tries to take a break and pause for a while before signing a new project.
Swatantrya Veer Savarkar also marks Randeep Hooda’s debut as a director. He has co-written the film as well with Utkarsh Naithani. On the occasion of Veer Savarkar’s 140th birth anniversary, the makers released the official teaser of the film. Besides Randeep Hooda, the biopic also features Ankita Lokhande in a pivotal role. Swatantrya Veer Savarkar is scheduled to arrive in cinema halls this year.
