Nelson Dilipkumar opened up on the mistakes he made while helming Thalapathy Vijay’s 2022 actioner Beast.
Filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar is currently on cloud nine. His latest release, Rajinikanth starrer Jailer continues to smash records at the box office and has already become the highest grossing Tamil film of this year. While Jailer has received a big thumbs up from the audience, Nelson’s previous directorial Beast headlined by Thalapathy Vijay had turned out to be quite a disappointment for fans.
In a recent interview with Film Companion, Nelson addressed the same and talked about the mistakes he made while directing the Vijay starrer. The director revealed that he had struggled with Beast and had not been able to carry out his original idea. He said that although he had intended to wrap up the film in a specific length of time, his calculations had been off.
The director said, “If I had six to seven months of time, I would have done an extra detail to narrate the story correctly and the film would not have received the mixed reviews. I thought I could complete the film in a particular amount of time, but my calculations were wrong.”
Nelson further blamed the COVID-19 pandemic for the disruptions in his filming schedule which resulted into incomplete sections in his work. He also apologised for not having enough time to polish and fix the film.
During the course of the conversation, Vijay also expressed his regret for failing Vijay who had put his complete faith in him. He further added that the Tamil star had given his greatest performance and was extremely helpful and supportive during the film’s production.
Talking about the film being a misfire, he recalled how Vijay asked him not to take reception to their film personally and talked about how they should aim to improve their performance moving forward. He also added that the Leo actor congratulated him for the mega-success of Jailer.
Apart from Thalapathy Vijay, Beast also featured Pooja Hegde and Aparna Das. The action flick revolves around a former RAW agent whose trip to a shopping mall goes wrong when a group of terrorists hold him hostage there along with the other visitors. Beast had a tough run at the box office owing to mixed reviews and the release of KGF Chapter 2 a day after it hit the big screens.
