Karishma Tanna, in a new interview, opened up on how she was out of work for almost a year despite being a part of Ranbir Kapoor’s blockbuster hit, Sanju.
Karishma Tanna, a known face on the small screen, featured in a cameo in Ranbir Kapoor headlined Sanju in 2018. The actress essayed the role of Pinky, who is Sanju’s best friend Kamli (Vicky Kaushal)’s girlfriend. Upon its release, the film emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of that year.
In a recent interview, Karishma revealed that despite people appreciating her cameo in the biopic, she didn’t receive as much work offers as she had hoped for which pushed her towards depression.
The actress told Siddharth Kannan in an interview, “I thought Sanju, despite the small role, will help me to move forward in life. But, in fact, nothing happened. After the film, whatever response, films or projects I had expected did not arrive. For good seven to eight months or 1 year, I wasn’t working.”
Karishma shared that she was unable to comprehend what went wrong with her career despite being hailed as a ‘promising’ actor by the critics.
The Hush Hush actress said, “I had a lot of expectations from the industry that I will get work now (after Sanju). I don’t know, sometimes you get into the dark hole, (and think) what does life want? What do I do more to showcase my acting? I went into a depressive phase. I thought my life is just colorless. I didn’t know what to do with my career.”
She further continued, “I was messaging people, saying ‘Have you seen Sanju? Did you like my acting?’ My mom is the only one with me. I didn’t feel like telling her because she would be stressed. My mom is sensitive. My friends wouldn’t understand because none are from the industry.”
Recalling how she would self-motivate herself when she got surrounded by negative thoughts, Tanna said, “Only I know how I have pulled up myself from that phase.” The actress revealed that she relied on Instagram ads and other things until OTT opportunities came to her.
On the work front, Karishma is currently busy with the promotions of her upcoming web series, Hansal Mehta’s Scoop in which she plays a pivotal role.
