Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan’s friendship goes a long way. The director-actor duo have worked together on  several films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and My Name Is Khan, amongst others. Off screen, they call each other brothers and always have fond things to say about each other.

In his latest interview, Karan Johar opened up on how his relationship with Shah Rukh Khan is beyond movies. He said that he has seen the superstar’s growth and felt part of it. The filmmaker talked about how SRK did cameos in his films, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Brahmastra for free.

“He shot for 14 days in Brahmastra. That’s our relationship,” KJo shared with the publication in his interview

On being asked if he gave SRK expensive gifts in return, he replied, “I give him clothes, he loves it.”

Karan further revealed that they don’t have a ‘monetary contract’ even while they work together.

The Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani director said, “Whatever is given [he takes it]. Our contracts with Shah Rukh Khan are about ‘It’s a pleasure to work with you, thank you’. We don’t have any detailed paper. All said and done [it’s about what] we expect of each other.”

Karan also opened up on how during the shoot of Ra. One, when the team was doing double shifts, he had stepped in to direct a portion, after SRK called him and said,  “It’s no big deal in our relationship.”

In the same interview, the director also recounted an anecdote to describe their bond. The incident happened at the premiere of his directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai when Karan was hiding in a hotel room after being threatened by an underworld don.

Recalling that scary incident, KJo said, “I’ll never forget how Shah Rukh brought me out. He said, ‘I’ll take the bullet for you, you just stand here’. That’s when I realised that this is a relationship that is forever.”

Recently, after watching Jawan, Karan took to his Instagram to pen an appreciation note for Shah Rukh Khan and his film. In response, King Khan wrote in a tweet, Karan, thrilled u liked the film. & of course the trailer….all the ‘century’ things u said. Ha ha. @Atlee_dir & his full team have genuinely catered to what the audience feels & thinks. Made them abandon everything & come & fall in love with themselves. Audience is the Emperor!”
