Kangana Ranaut talked about ‘wrong choices’ she made while making her upcoming release Emergency which is finally hitting the big screens after numerous delays.
Kangana Ranaut’s much-talked about film Emergency is finally releasing in cinema halls on January 17 after enduring numerous controversies and significant delays. The biographical political drama, marking her first solo directorial venture, features her as late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and revolves around the incidents which took place under her leadership.
In a recent chat with News18, Kangana made some unfiltered confessions about her upcoming release. The Tejas actress admitted that she was ‘scared’ by the delay in the film’s release when the CBFC refused to certify it for months. She said that while she is thrilled that Emergency is finally reaching the audience, she also acknowledged that she took a wrong decision by choosing a theatrical release for her film instead of going the OTT route.
“I felt that it was a wrong decision to release it in theatres. I thought I could have gotten a better deal on OTT. I also wouldn’t have had to go through censorship then and my film wouldn’t have been dissected. I didn’t know what all they (the CBFC) would remove and let us keep,” the actress said in her interview.
Further, Kangana didn’t shy away from pointing out her own mistakes and said that her decision to direct Emergency was a wrong choice made by her.
The Fashion actress confessed, “I felt that I made the wrong choices on many levels: firstly, wanting to direct this film. I took it for granted that even though we don’t have a Congress government… I previously talked about the movie Kissa Kursi Ka. Nobody has seen that film to date and back then, they burnt all the prints. Also, nobody made films about Mrs Gandhi. Upon watching Emergency, today’s generation will be surprised to think how she became like that; after all, she became PM three times. I underestimated things and thought that I would be able to get away by making a film on Emergency.”
She further added, “There was a despair but we fought it. We submitted all the documents after facing scrutiny on even small things. A lot of historians and people from various provinces and communities took a look at it and they did not find anything sensitive. They also admitted that the movie is stalled illegally. But we have a lot of respect for government bodies and we cooperated with them fully.”
Besides Kangana Ranaut, Emergency also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, Vishwak Sen and Milind Soman in pivotal roles.
