Kajol said that she wants to collaborate with “good people” whether it is for films or for OTT platforms.
After Renuka Shahane’s Tribhanga, Kajol is all set to take the digital world by storm with her upcoming series, The Trial: Pyaar, Kannoon, Dhokha which is an adaptation of the American show The Good Wife. Helmed by Suparn S Varma of The Family Man and Rana Naidu fame, the courtroom drama series is co-produced by Kajol’s actor-husband Ajay Devgn.
At the trailer launch event of The Trial which was held on Monday (June 12), Kajol shared that it was a fairly easy decision for her to step into the digital space as she doesn’t differentiate between OTT and films.
The actress said, “I have always thought that whenever I work, I will do something I enjoy the most, work with good people and that script will always be my hero. Whether it is an OTT platform or a film, for me a role is a role. In both mediums, the hard work you put in is the same. Perhaps it is a bit more when you are doing an eight-episode series on OTT.”
Kajol admitted that while she ‘loved’ the original series, she wondered how it would be adapted for the Indian audience.
The Kuch Kuch Hota Hai star shared, “The character was amazing; the concept was fabulous, but I did have a question about how it would be adapted in Hindi. That’s when Suparn came in, the narration came in. For me, it’s really about the script. The script is never about one character. It is always about everybody’s character. This series is so well-rounded and well-written.”
Shedding light on her character Noyonika Sengupta in the series, Kajol further added, “It is an evolved character, a complex character. This is a situation every woman can identify with. Whether they have faced it in real life or not, they have definitely imagined such a scenario. You have thought if it ever happens, what would you do? Secondly, I am an actor, I will do it to the best of my abilities.”
The Trial: Pyaar, Kannoon, Dhokha revolves around a woman and a mother of two who is driven to prove herself in the competitive world of law and navigate her way through complicated relationships when her husband is jailed for a public scandal. The series also stars Jisshu Sengupta, Alyy Khan, Kubbra Sait, Sheeba Chaddha and Gaurav Pandey in key roles.
The Kajol starrer is slated to premiere on July 14 on Disney+ Hotstar.
