Jawan dialogue writer Sumit Arora shared that the viral ‘bete ko haath lagane se pehle…’ dialogue wasn’t initially a part of the script and was incorporated on the day of the shoot.

When the trailer of Atlee’s pan India film Jawan dropped online, fans couldn’t stop raving about Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘mass avatar’. Another thing which caught the attention of the netizen was the dialogue, “Bete ko hath lagane se pehle, baap se baat kar” (Before touching the son, deal with the father).

Many fans on social media drew parallels to Shah Rukh’s real life, when his son Aryan Khan was arrested  in the drugs-on-cruise case in 2021. The latter was later given a clean chit by the court and  Sameer Wankhede, the investigating officer on this case, was accused of asking for bribe from the superstar.

However, you guys would be surprised to know that this viral dialogue was initially not a part of the script. It was incorporated on the day of shoot.

According to a report in India Express, the film’s dialogue writer Sumit Arora said in a statement, “It’s a story that will make you believe in the magic of movie making. That line was never there in our draft originally. The ‘moment’ where SRK sir’s character says the line was always there and we all knew that it is a powerful moment even without a dialogue. But while shooting, it was felt that there should be a line, that this guy should say something.”

He continued, “I was there on the set, so I was called in, and the first words that came out of my mouth given the situation were: ‘bete ko haath lagane se pehle, baap se baat kar’. It felt like the most obvious and most apt thing he should say at that moment. It just fits (in). Director Atlee and SRK sir both felt it’s correct and the shot was taken.”

Sumit further said that the team never anticipated that this dialogue would resonate with people in such a way.

“The way SRK sir delivered it gave us goosebumps. But we never thought that that line would become such a huge hit and would resonate with people in this way. As a writer, you can only write a line but its destiny goes on to write itself,” he was quoted as saying.

Jawan, Atlee’s Hindi debut, opened to positive response from the critics and audience upon its release. It received a bumper opening at the box office and has already minted over Rs 600 crore gross at the worldwide box office. The action entertainer also features Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara in pivotal roles.
