Ishaan Khatter talked about how he he faces difficulty in bagging substantial roles because of his youthful appearance.
Ishaan Khatter made his acting debut with acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi’s Beyond The Clouds alongside Malavika Mohanan in 2017. He later went on to star in films like Dhadak, Khaali Peeli, Phone Bhoot, amongst others.
In a recent interview with Indian Express, Ishaan admitted that despite being in the industry for almost eight years now, he still faces a unique hurdle. The ‘Pippa’ actor said that he struggles to get to meaty, layered roles in Hindi cinema because of his ‘young looks’.
Ishaan shared, “When I started I was 21. For the longest time, the most consistent feedback I would get is that I look very young. For better or worse, we don’t write a lot of complex and layered roles for young faces and young actors here. So, I was very fortunate that I got to start with the likes of Majid Majidi and Mira (Nair) di two years down the lane.”
The actor admitted that he felt bitter about this as he is constantly striving to take up meaningful roles.
I was also a bit spoiled because I started with Beyond The Clouds, and it was a rare role. I just wanted to break out of the mould little. Even in commercial projects, to receive parts that are three dimensional, that is largely an actor’s job to bring those layers and dimensions, but it is very important to be supported by text as well. I think it is changing and you should celebrate it when you get a chance like that and when it is appreciated and received well,” he told the publication.
Ishaan also said that he doesn’t want to restrict himself to just one industry, and is focused on doing just good work. He further added that his aim to make the most of the opportunities that comes his way and do justice to them.
Meanwhile, Ishaan recently made his Hollywood debut with Nicole Kidman starrer The Perfect Couple.
