Deepika Padukone opened up on dealing with negative reviews for her performance when her debut film Om Shanti Om released in theatres.
From her dreamy debut opposite Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in Farah Khan’s reincarnation drama Om Shanti Om (2007) to being one of the top A-lister heroines in Hindi cinema, Deepika Padukone has come a long way. However, at the beginning of the career, the actress was subjected to negativity especially when her debut film hit the marquee.
Recently in an interaction with Ariannna Huffington as a part of the Live Love Laugh lecture series, Deepika spoke about how she dealt with criticism for her performance in Om Shanti Om. The actress revealed that she was mocked for her accent and diction in this Shah Rukh Khan starrer.

Deepika shared, “When my debut movie Om Shanti Om released, there were quite a few bad reviews, but I specifically remember this one bad review which pushed me to work on myself. It spoke about my accent, my diction, my talent and capabilities.”
Speaking about how she reacted to that ‘criticism’ in a positive way, the ‘Jawan’ actress continued, “Negativity is sometimes a good thing, it’s what you make on it. The larger picture is what do you do with that criticism, how do you look at it positively.”
Deepika’s comments come at the time when the actress has been receiving flak for her performance in the recently released trailer of Singham Again.
In the same interview, the Bollywood star also talked about how she finds it bizarre when people look down upon those who prioritize their well-being.
“For someone who makes time for themselves, or takes a weekend off, people think that person is not driven which I find so bizarre. If someone needs downtime or time for themselves, they think this person is not motivated enough so let’s look for someone who is ready to burn the midnight oil, because that person is hardworking, so committed. For me, it comes from being an athlete, that you need your rest, you need your recovery to perform better,” Deepika said in her interview.
On the work front, Deepika will next be seen in Rohit Shetty’s upcoming multistarrer Singham Again which also features Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Tiger Shroff and Arjun Kapoor.
