Boney Kapoor recently talked about how he dealt with the failure of Anil Kapoor-Sridevi starrer Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja in 1993.
Anil Kapoor and Sridevi were one of the most successfully pairings on screen who entertained the audience with their magical chemistry and impeccable comic timing. While some of their films like Mr India and Judaai were successful, a couple of them tanked at the box office. One of them is Satish Kaushik’s 1993 action comedy Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja.
Recently, in a chat with New Indian Express, the film’s producer Boney Kapoor walked down the memory lane and recalled this one of his toughest phase in his career. He told the publication that when a film of such a big scale flops at the box office, one loses their own money, and also the money of other investors. However, he also added that whenever he faced such a setback, he has always bounced back stronger.
Talking specifically about Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, Kapoor recalled how his first wife Mona Kapoor walked barefoot to Siddhivinayak temple from their house post the film’s debacle and shared, “My brothers stood with me.”
He said that the film’s colossal failure came across as a big shock to them. Boney further shared that even though he went through big losses, he never changed his phone number to get away from debt collectors. He further revealed that he has had the same two phone numbers since 1994.

Kapoor further told the publication that unlike some producers, he takes calls from unknown numbers as well, and even calls back when he misses a call.
He said, “I always respond to people whether I owe them money, or people I don’t know. This has been my hallmark.”
Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja was initially helmed by Shekhar Kapur, who was subsequently replaced by Satish Kaushik after the former left the project midway.
