Bellamkonda Sreenivas blamed the failure of his Bollywood debut Chatrapathi on the wrong timing of its theatrical release.
Earlier this year, Telugu actor Bellamkonda Sreenivas forayed into Hindi cinema with VV Vinayak’s Chatrapathi. However, the film, a remake of SS Rajamouli-Prabhas’ 2005 Telugu hit of the same name, failed to meet the expectations of the audience and fared poorly at the box office.
In a recent interaction with Hindustan Times, the Kavacham actor opened up on the same and said that things would have been different if his film hadn’t released a week after Adah Sharma starrer The Kerala Story.
Sreenivas told the publication, “When we released in on May 12, The Kerala Story was really strong at the box office. All the attention was on that film. Had we not released alongside The Kerala Story, things would have been very different. Not only that, things would have been different if it was released before the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Further, the actor shared that he had signed Chatrapathi before the COVID-19 pandemic and the shoot got delayed because of this crisis. According to Sreenivas, things have changed post pandemic and the audiences too, have evolved.
“The content which people want is very different, audiences have evolved. They want projects high on content. It reminds us that we have to pull up our socks and put in more effort,” the daily quoted him as saying.
However, Bellamkonda Sreenivas is happy that his performance in Chatrapathi was appreciated by the audience and shared that he is being approached for more roles in Hindi films.

The actor said, “I understand the film wasn’t a success but it did mark my debut in the Hindi film industry, and that is good enough for me. I’m still in the early stage of my career. The feedback has been good. My performance in the film was noticed, and it is helping me get more opportunities. People have seen my talent and got an idea about my capabilities. Now, I have to pick the right Hindi film and not disappoint my fans.”
Besides Bellamkonda Sreenivas, Chatrapathi also featured Nushrratt Bharucha, Bhagyashree and Sharad Kelkar in pivotal roles.
