Barun Sobti shared his experience of collaborating with Sanaya Irani, his co-star from Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Do, after many years.
When you talk about some of the most popular reel pairings on the small screen, you simply can’t miss the names of Barun Sobti and Sanaya Irani. The duo became a rage as Arnav Raizada and Khushi Kumari Gupta when they shared screen space in one of Star Plus’ most popular shows, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Do’ (IPKKND) which aired from 2012-2013.
Fondly known as #SaRun or #ArShi, such was the craze for this pairing that the show’s producer ended up launching an eight episode web series to extend their storyline. Over the years, fans continue to shower love on this loved jodi. While they were heartbroken when IPKKND ended, recently, Barun and Sanaya gave their fans a reason to rejoice when they teamed up to shoot a commercial together,
Later, in a chat with News18 Showsha, Barun opened up on collaborating with his IPKKND co-star after many years.
He told the publication, “It was nice. It was the same. Nothing has changed, which is great. We meet once a week anyway. We’re a group of friends and we catch up every now and then basis whoever’s free. Sometimes, we’re four people meeting and sometimes ten. Having said that, I’ve to admit that working together is a different ballgame, but that hasn’t changed. The dynamic between us is still the same. It’s a 50-50 deal with Sanaya.”
After doing the first and third season of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, Barun turned his attention towards films and OTT. In the past, the actor has often talked about the discrimination that he faced much like many of his peers when he made this transition.
On being asked if he had received offers from those who had rejected him back in the day, Barun said that he believes keeping credits like that is a bad way of accounting.
“A good way of accounting is making the most of everything and not behave in the way with others how people behaved with you that made you feel that it was wrong. I’m happy that I don’t think like that. They’re happy in their space and I’m happy in mine,” the ‘Asur’ actor told the portal. He admitted that he was affected back then when some people told him that he can’t do a film because he was a TV actor.
He also opined that the perception against casting actors from the TV industry in films and web shows exists because studios feel that they won’t be able to pull a project.
Barun explained, “There are multiple corporate reasons involved. A lot of networks operate on the fact that everyone wants to get an approval. Their jobs are based on the suggestions they make. But a few of these audacious filmmakers, those that made Asur, Halal, Tu Hai Mera Sunday and Kohrra, stood against the networks and took the calls they wanted to and pulled together such a fabulous cast.”
On the work front, Barun will next be seen in Sony Liv’s upcoming web series, Raat Jawaan Hai, co-starring Priya Bapat and Anjali Anand.
