Ayushmann Khurrana spoke about the unsuccessful theatrical run of his 2022 film An Action Hero, adding that it received lots of love when it released on OTT.

Ayushmann Khurrana, known for his versatility on screen, surprised everyone in a never-seen-before avatar in Anirudh Iyer’s Bollywood directorial debut An Action Hero which released last year. The action-thriller featured the actor performing some cool stunts on the celluloid.

Sadly despite the film receiving rave reviews from the critics, it underperformed at the ticket windows upon its theatrical release. However, it drew a lot of praise from the audience when they watched it on OTT. In a recent interaction with a news agency, Ayushmann blamed the film’s mistimed release for its lukewarm performance at the box office.

The actor told PTI, “It really depends on timing. This is the best time, the theatricals are also back and I am glad mid-budget films are working. It is a great silver lining. I think it was a bad time then. An Action Hero got a lot of love later. I will keep on making these choices. I am sure theatricals will happen and we will do well.”

An Action Hero also features Jaideep Ahlawat as the main antagonist. The slick actioner revolves around a popular movie star whose life turns an unexpected turn post a murder accusation, and he is forced to flee the country with a vengeful politician hot on his heels.

Ayushmann’s next release is Raj Shaandilyaa’s Dream Girl 2. Revealing that this Dream Girl sequel would be more exciting than the first part, he shared, “This is like ‘Dream Girl 2.0′ in a way… It is a different scenario altogether. If you found ‘Dream Girl’ funny, this is going to be 10 times more fun. It is probably my second single-screen film. Most of my films are multiplex films, this is going to be a big blast. I am expecting a lot from ‘Dream Girl 2.”

On being asked if sequels or franchises are a safe zone today, the actor opined that while sequels of blockbuster movies get a lot of traction, but eventually, it’s the script which needs to work.

Ayushmann Khurrana is paired opposite Ananya Panday in Dream Girl 2.
