Ameesha Patel, in a new interview, shared an interesting incident which happened post the release of her 2001 blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.
Ameesha Patel is currently basking in the success of her latest release Gadar 2 in which she reprised her role of Sakina alongside Sunny Deol who played Tara Singh.
In a recent chat with an entertainment portal, the actress recalled enjoying similar success after the release of Gadar: Ek Prem Katha in 2001. She also recalled how acclaimed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, known for films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas and Bajirao Mastani complimented her after watching Gadar and asked her to retire since she had already achieved what most people don’t achieve in their entire career.
Ameesha told Bollywood Hungama, “After watching Gadar, Sanjay Leela Bhansali wrote a really beautiful complimentary letter to me, and when I had a meeting with him, he said ‘Ameesha, you should retire now.’ I was like ‘why?’ I didn’t understand.”
She further continued, “He said, ‘Because you have already achieved in two films which most people don’t achieve in their entire career. Once in a lifetime a Mughal-e-Azam, Mother India, Pakeezah, Sholay get made, you had it in your second film, so what next?’ I didn’t understand it at that time because I was a kid, I was so new to the film world (to know) what he meant by setting the bar high.”
After Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, Ameesha went on to feature in films like Humraaz, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd, Race 2 among others. But none of them turned out to be as successful as these two films. After a long time, the actress finally delivered a huge hit in the form of Gadar 2 this year. As of now, the Sunny Deol starrer has crossed Rs 400-crore mark at the box office.
