Ameesha Patel talked about Kareena Kapoor Khan’s exit from Hrithik Roshan’s 2000 film Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai in a recent interview.
Kareena Kapoor Khan made her acting debut opposite Abhishek Bachchan’s JP Dutta’s cross-border romance Refugee in 2000. Initially, the actress was supposed to foray into Bollywood with Hrithik Roshan starrer Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai and had even filmed for some days until she was replaced by Ameesha Patel in the film.
There were reports in the media that Bebo’s mother Babita wasn’t happy with how the film was coming along and had advised her to back out from the film. However in a recent interview, Ameesha Patel had a different story to tell!
While speaking with Bollywood Bubble, Ameesha claimed that she was told by filmmaker Rakesh Roshan that he asked Kareena to leave the film because of creative differences.
The Gadar 2 actress told Bollywood Bubble, “Actually, she didn’t back out. From what Rakesh ji told me, he asked her to leave the film because they were having differences. And Pinkie aunty, his wife and Hrithik’s mom, said that they were shocked because the set was ready, and a replacement Sonia had to be found in three days, and crores of rupees (had been spent) on that set, and it was Hrithik’s debut and everyone was really stressed. Pinky aunty told me that the day Rakesh saw me at the wedding, he did not sleep all night. He was like ‘I got my Sonia, I got my Sonia, but I hope she says yes’.”
She continued, “Rakesh uncle always says, ‘This girl paid attention to everything I taught her on sets.’ He always praises me and says I was a blessing in disguise.”
Ameesha also told the portal that the director first met her at a wedding when she was just a teenager, and told her that he would cast her in a movie when she is old enough.
Speaking about Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai, the musical film upon its release turned out to be one of the most grossing movies of that year and turned the lead pair-Hrithik and Ameesha into overnight sensations.
