Producer Anil Sunkara took the blame for the box-office failure of Akhil Akkineni’s latest release, Agent.
Akhil Akkineni’s much-anticipated film, Agent arrived in cinema halls last week. There was a lot of buzz around this much-delayed film which marked the Bollywood debut of Dino Morea.
Unfortunately, the film was panned by the audience and critics alike upon its release. In fact, even Akhil’s diehard fans also criticised the film which flopped miserably at the box office.
Following Agent’s poor show at the box office, one of the producers of the film, Anil Sunkara took to his Twitter handle and took the blame for the film’s failure. He admitted that it was a mistake to roll the Akhil Akkineni starrer without a bound script and added that the film also got delayed many times due to COVID-19.
Anil issued a statement that read, “We have to take the entire blame for #Agent. Though we know its an uphill task, we thought of conquering but failed to do so as we did a blunder starting the project without a bound script & innumerable issues including covid followed. We don’t want to give any excuses but learn from this costly mistake and see how we can turnaround to make sure, we will never repeat the mistakes. Our sincere apologies to all those who put trust on us. We will make it up for the losses with dedicated planning & hardwork in our future projects.”

Earlier, Akhil’s mother Amala Akkineni came out in support of her son’s film after it faced the wrath of trolls. She shared a quote by Tim Hansen on her Instagram handle and wrote, “I understand that trolling comes from inner insecurity and needs for achievement. I watched Agent yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed the film. Though it had its flaws, if you watch with an open mind you’ll be amazed. I watched it in a power-packed theatre while 50% of the audience among are ladies who are mothers and grandmothers along with their husbands and sons. There were screams when the big action happened. I am sure, his next one will be bigger and better.”
Made on a budget of nearly Rs 80 Crores, Agent which released alongside Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 2, received a poor opening of Rs 7 Crore. Helmed by Surinder Reddy, the film stars Akhil Akkineni, Mammootty, Dino Morea and Sakshi Vaidya.
