Aditya Roy Kapur spoke about how Aashiqui 2 turned out to be a defining moment in his career.
After playing supporting roles in films like London Dreams, Action Replayy and Guzaarish, Aditya Roy Kapur tasted his first major success with his portrayal of an alcoholic musician in Mohit Suri’s tragic-romance, Aashiqui 2. The film catapulted him and his co-star Shraddha Kapoor to stardom and the songs from it too, topped every musical chart.
In a recent interview with Filmfare, Aditya spoke about how this musical turned out to be a ‘watershed moment’ in his career. The Malang actor told the publication, “Prior to it, I had been in three films as a supporting actor. And, prior to Aashiqui 2, I had never romanced with a girl on screen. I’d never played the lead before. That was my first lead and it altered the game for me. I don’t think I’d be here if Aashiqui 2 hadn’t happened.
On being asked what made the film so popular with the audience, Aditya pointed at its relatability factor and explained, “I believe that some stories have an innate element to which people can relate; perhaps they recognised themselves in the characters, or perhaps they thought they were relatable, and the conflict between them was something that everyone could understand and identify with.”
Citing example of Bradley Cooper’s major box office success, A Star Is Born, he said that it all comes down to human connections.
“The direction, music, songs, age and timing of Mohit Suri were all great. It’s like hum sab sath mein mile aur ek magic ho gaya. Kuch cheezein bas ho jaati hain (We all got together and magic happened). Consider yourself fortunate if it happens a few times in your career,” Aditya told the portal.

Aditya Roy Kapur-Shraddha Kapoor’s Aashiqui 2 completed two decades in April this year.
In the same interview, the Gumraah star also admitted that he ‘feels horrible’ when his films fare poorly at the box office but also added that it’s important to experience failures.
Speaking about how he copes with them, he shared, “Don’t try to avoid it. Simply accept the situation. It takes time for things to become normal. So, I take advantage of the opportunity. I just cut myself from the world. Then, after a few days, I return and begin working on other projects. Otherwise, you become sidetracked and your positivity erodes. So if you have the option of returning to work, that’s fantastic.”
On the work front, Aditya Roy Kapur is currently gearing up for the release of his OTT series, The Night Manager Part 2. He will also be seen in Anurag Basu’s Life In A…Metro sequel titled Metro Inn Dino.
