Aanand L Rai expressed his regret over not waiting for theatres to reopen to release Atrangi Re.
After the debacle of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Zero, Aanand L Rai’s next was Atrangi Re headlined by Dhanush, Sara Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar. The film directly premiered on Disney+ Hotstar amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.
In a recent interaction with Times Now, Aanand L Rai said that he regrets not waiting for a couple of months for the cinema halls to reopen and instead, opting a direct OTT release for Atrangi Re.
The filmmaker said, “Yes, I do regret not waiting for some more time. I normally don’t keep regrets but with Atrangi Re, I realised that I should have waited.”
Explaining the reason behind the same, he continued, “That emotion needed that dark room. Two hours of undivided attention. Atrangi Re deserved that big screen. But then it’s a fate, life moves on. I still got a lot of love for that film. But yes, it should have been a big screen experience.”
Atrangi Re revolves around a runaway girl, Rinku (Sara Ali Khan) who gets forcibly married to an already engaged Vishu (Dhanush). Their love story becomes a triangle when Rinku’s lover, Sajjad (Akshay Kumar) enters into the picture.
Meanwhile, after Atrangi Re, Dhanush and Aanand L Rai are all set to team up for the third time for the latter’s upcoming directorial, Tere Ishk Mein. While speaking with the same portal, Rai clarified that while one may get the fragrance of Raanjhanaa in this film because of the feel, energy and mood, it’s a different story. He also reacted to reports of casting Triptii Dimri as the female lead, and said, “Let the speculation keep rolling. I will give my cast very soon.”
Apart from this, Aanand L Rai is also launching two fresh faces- Ansh Duggal and Pragati Srivastava in his upcoming production titled, Nakhrewaalii.
