Aamir Khan opened up about his experience of working with Salman Khan in Andaz Apna Apna, revealing he found him distracted and felt like an assistant on set.
During the filming of Raj Kumar Santoshi’s cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan were far from the close friends they are today. Recently, when both the superstars made an appearance on Kajol-Twinkle Khanna’s latest chat show Two Much, the duo recalled how their equation has evolved over the years.
During the course of the conversation, Aamir confessed that he found it difficult to work with Salman while they were filming Andaz Apna Apna, citing that the Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor was often distracted, didn’t show up on time, and treated him more like an assistant than a co-star.
Aamir revealed, “I didn’t like him a lot because I used to feel that he wasn’t punctual; it was quite a problem. He used to come on set, and we would be very happy that he had at least shown up at 12 pm. First he used to come and sleep and then have lunch. Half the day was already gone by then, so I and Raj used to break down the scenes for him once he was up. Even then he used to sit there looking distracted, and he used to treat me like an assistant.”
In response, Salman explained that during the shooting of Andaz Apna Apna, his co-star Aamir would arrive on set as early as 7 a.m. for a shift that officially began at 9 a.m., since Aamir was working on just one film at the time.

Salman, on the other hand, was juggling around 15 projects and had an intense schedule- working from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., then 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., and again from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. He shared that by the time he reached the set, he would be completely exhausted, and Aamir would still be deep into rehearsals.
The Sikandar star admitted that he would often ask the crew to call him only when Aamir was fully ready, which may have led the latter to believe that he wasn’t serious about his work.
Further, Aamir joked that he would often find himself thinking that something wasn’t right and that Salman’s behavior didn’t sit well with him.
“I was also very hard on myself. Slowly, I realized that we are all human beings, and we also had some great moments while filming together,” the actor recalled.
Aamir and Salman Khan’s friendship found its footing during one of the most vulnerable chapters in Aamir’s life- his divorce from Reena Dutta. While the Talaash actor was going through a tough phase, Salman quietly showed up at his home one evening for dinner. For the first time, they connected beyond the screen. Salman’s warm gesture broke the ice between them, and laid the foundation for a lasting bond.
