Popular chef Ranveer Brar, known for his lip-smacking recipes, made his acting debut alongside Pratik Gandhi in Amazon Prime’s web series, Modern Love Mumbai. Recently, he was seen in Kareena Kapoor Khan’s thriller, The Buckingham Murders, in which he essayed the role of Daljit Kohli.

In an interview with India Today, the chef-turned-actor opened up on how the slap sequence in the climax of the film took 15 takes, with Kareena not even touching him once.

Ranveer shared, “Kareena was initially reluctant to slap me; she kept saying, ‘nahi maarungi’ (I will not hit you). On the other hand, Hansal sir (director Hansal Mehta) insisted, ‘maar do, I know Ranveer, he won’t mind.’ Kareena’s hands always ended up close to my nose without actually touching me. I am not used to reacting without being hit, so we needed at least 15 takes for that scene. However, I must add that Kareena did not touch me even once.”

Further, Brar also recalled how the hype around the ‘Jab We Met’ star made him so nervous that he ended up with a fever.

Ranveer said, “When it comes to the fear of the camera, I realised it was my strength, so it was never an issue. While working with Pratik was breezy, the hype around Kareena made me nervous. I even got a fever. The writers and assistants kept reminding me to prepare thoroughly before shooting with her. That’s when I felt slightly intimidated on set.”

He revealed that Kareena sat through all his close-ups, even though someone else could have done that thing and he felt that it was quite ‘sweet and humble’ of her to come up with that gesture.

Ranveer told the news portal, “Given it was my first day on set, she made me feel comfortable. All the anxiety I had vanished in that moment.”

Noting how artists from film families often hold a special respect for the script and story, he shared, “Kareena was committed to the film and the story, not just her character. As a producer, she could have easily focused on her role, but she always prioritized the story.

Ranveer said that he has immense respect for Kareena after sharing screen space with her in The Buckingham Murders. Describing his experience on this film as a ‘filmmaking school,’ he expressed his gratitude towards director Hansal Mehta. He said that he learnt so much that it felt like going back to school,

The Buckingham Murders revolves around a grieving detective, who after losing her kid to murder, moves to another town where she is assigned the case of a missing child.
