Dada starring Kavin and Aparna Das opened to rave reviews from the critics upon its release.
Ganesh K Babu’s Tamil film Dada featuring Big Boss fame Kavin and Aparna Das received a lot of love not only from the audience and the critics, but also from the film fraternity. Actors like Dhanush and Karthi heaped praise on the film upon its release.
The coming-of-age drama about accidental pregnancy, was lauded for its poignant story-telling and top-notch performances.
But do you folks know that the makers had conceptualized a different ending for this film? The film’s lead star Kavin made this revelation in an interview with Film Companion.
(Spoiler alert: Towards the end of the film, we see Kavin’s Manikandan sleeping peacefully with his girlfriend Sindhu (Aparna Das) resting her head on his chest, along with their kid on the office floor).
The original climax had Manikandan and Sindhu going to the terrace and enjoying a private moment in the twilight. However, during the shoot, Kavin wondered how it would be to see a person, who has gone through so much in a short span of time, sleep peacefully in the middle of the office, similar to the film’s first shot.
Kavin told the portal, “Ganesh (the film’s director) and I discussed it, and the people on the set were also very positive about the scene. Today, many people watching the film are comparing the two shots. So, I am personally very happy.”
He also revealed that the opening scene had an additional three-minute run time. But they trimmed it on the basis of the length of the title credits. Kavin further shared that the background sound of a couple fighting was added during the time of dubbing to show the contrast in emotions.
Helmed by Ganesh K Babu, Dada revolves around unplanned pregnancy and how the college student struggles as a single father.
