Yami Gautam, in a new interview, reacted to being tagged ‘underutilized’ in movies. The actress was recently seen in Akshay Kumar-Pankaj Tripathi starrer OMG 2.
Yami Gautam who made her acting debut opposite Ayushmann Khurrana in Shoojit Sircar’s Vicky Donor, has carved her own space in the film industry in her career spanning over a decade. However, some people still feel that the actress has a lot of potential which is yet to be tapped into by filmmakers.
Few days ago, a user on Twitter heaped praise on Yami and posted, “It’s amazing how every time Yami Gautam manages to SURPRISE us with her performance! #OMG2 is no exception. She owns every frame she’s in! Even her silence speaks a lot. I hate the term ‘underrated’. I’d just say she’s under-utilised by our filmmakers.”
In response, the actress highlighted her talent for picking out ‘good scripts and versatile characters.’
Recently, in an interview with Hindustan Times, the Bala actress was asked whether she has changed the ‘underutilized’ narrative about herself with films like OMG 2, A Thursday, Dasvi, Lost and Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga.
Responding back, Yami admitted that there has been a very permanent shift with the kind of films coming her way.
The actress said, “I know the person was trying to give me a compliment and I thanked him. It may have been true at some point in time, you know. But that doesn’t change me at all. This is the only way I will ever talk to the media, like right now, I have always talked about my film. I have never asked to write anything about me to make me feel better or bigger than what I have done.”
Yami further emphasized that she prefers to maintain the same for her personal life as well.
Meanwhile, on the film front, Yami’s last screen appearance was in Akshay Kumar-Pankaj Tripathi starrer OMG 2. The social satire marked her first theatrical release after four years. The actress shared that it was Akshay who approached her for this film in 2020 and got her in touch with the film’s director Amit Rai.
