Karisma Kapoor’s mother Babita’s stubbornness left her bleeding during Coolie No 1’s ‘Husn Hai Suhana’ song shoot.
Ask any 90s kid and they’ll tell you how iconic the pairing of Govinda and Karisma Kapoor on screen is for them! Besides their impeccable comic timing, the duo also have many blockbuster songs together to their credit. One of them is the foot-tapping ‘Husn Hai Suhana’ song from David Dhawan’s 1995 film Coolie No. 1.
However do you know that Karisma had a ‘painful’ experience while shooting for this iconic number. In a recent interaction with Pinkvilla, noted choreographer Ganesh Acharya shared how Karisma’s mother Babita’s action left her daughter injured on the sets of this song.
He revealed that Babita pushed for Karisma to do a dance move which was initially only for Govinda. By the end of filming the song, the Raja Babu actress ended up with ‘scrapped knees’.
“It was the knee movement. Her mother, Babita ji, played a big role in it. That moment was originally a solo for Govinda, but Babita ji came and asked, ‘Why is he doing it alone?’ I explained, ‘Ma’am, Karisma is wearing shorts, and this is a knee movement.’ She insisted, ‘She will do it; why won’t she? Show her and make her do it,'” Acharya told the publication.

The choreographer admitted that he was so intimidated by Babita that he got his assistant to demonstrate the dance movie, and Karisma couldn’t refuse her mother’s demand.
“She had to do the same step in those shorts, sliding on her knees. After the song, you could see that her knees were scraped. Govinda had knee pads under his pants, but she had nothing for protection,” he shared.
Further showering praise on Karisma, he continued, “That’s why she is who she is today. She worked incredibly hard, and a lot of credit goes to her mother, Babita ji. She played a big role in shaping both Karisma and Kareena.”
Coolie No 1 (1995) is a remake of Prabhu-Sukanya’s 1993 comedy film Sinna Mapplai.
