Director Apoorva Lakhia, in a recent interview, recalled how he got Abhishek Bachchan onboard for his 2003 film, Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost.
Director Apoorva Lakhia recently shared how Abhishek Bachchan had initially refused to star in his 2003 film, Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost after showing interest in doing in it. The filmmaker revealed that he was so upset with Bachchan Jr that he took away the script from him and walked out of house.
While speaking with Siddharth Kanan, Apoorva shared, “He called me home and told me, ‘This film should be made. This is a brilliant script. This should be made 100 percent but not with me.’ I was shocked because I thought he was doing it.”
Admitting that he got angry with Abhishek’s suggestion, the Shootout At Lokhandwala director recalled, “I got up from my chair and said, ‘Give me the script.’ I couldn’t hide my anger since I didn’t belong to the industry and didn’t know you cannot get angry at the actor. He gave me my script and I left. He called me while I was leaving and asked, ‘Bro, are you angry with me?’ I told him, ‘100 percent I am. You are Amitabh Bachchan’s son, you don’t have any tension. What about me? I have been waiting for six months, travelling in an autorickshaw.”
Apoorva revealed that a week later, Abhishek decided to met him again. “I thought he would get upset and reprimand me for how I talked to him. But, when I went to meet him, he said, ‘When do you want to start?'”
On being asked what changed the actor’s mind, the filmmaker said, “Maybe, he found that I am honest,” adding that since then, he and Abhishek have been friends. Lakhia told the interviewer that for him, Abhishek is the most relatable human being.
