Gupt director Rajiv Rai recalled how Amitabh Bachchan had questioned his decision of showing Kajol as the killer when he watched the film at a trial show in Chennai.
Rajiv Rai’s 1997 thriller Gupt starring Bobby Deol, Kajol and Manisha Koirala is still remembered for its iconic plot twist in the climax and is often mentioned in popular pop culture. Admit it or not but most of us had our jaws dropped when Kajol turned out to be the killer in the film!
But do you know that Amitabh Bachchan was quite apprehensive about this revelation in the film when he watched Gupt?

Recently in a conversation with Ravi Buleiy for his YouTube channel, Rajiv Rai recalled how Big B requested to watch Gupt during a trial show in Chennai, and called him the next day.
“He said, ‘Rajiv, are you convinced with what you have done in this film? You have made Kajol the killer, are you sure? How can you be so sure?’ So in one way, as a senior, he scolded me. Mere ko daant padi. He is a senior, he can obviously scold me,” the Tridev director shared.
Rai further continued, “He questioned me, ‘How are you so confident that this will work? I told him, ‘Sir, I don’t have an answer for your questions. It is Wednesday already, please wait for 2 days, you will get your answer.”
Eventually, Gupt turned out to be a blockbuster success at the box office upon its release. Not just that, Kajol even went on to become the first actress in the history of Filmfare Awards to win an award for best performance in a negative role.
Gupt revolves around Sahil (Bobby Deol), who, after being wrongfully accused of his stepfather’s murder, escapes from prison to uncover the real killer.
