Rakesh Roshan, in a new interview, shared that Ajay Devgn was his first choice for the role of Kaal, the main antagonist of Krrish 3.
Rakesh Roshan’s 2013 superhero action thriller Krrish 3 featured Hrithik Roshan’s Krishna Mehra (Krrish) locking horns with Kaal, an evil geneticist played by Vivek Oberoi. But do you know that Vivek wasn’t the first choice to essay the role of the main antagonist in this film?
In a recent interview, director Rakesh Roshan revealed that he had approached Ajay Devgn for this role. Interestingly, the two were supposed to collaborate on Karan Arjun (1995). Unfortunately, things didn’t materialize back then. Years later, Rakesh offered Ajay Krrish 3 again. This time too, Ajay turned down the offer because he felt, as a hero, he cannot be killed by another hero.

While speaking with News18, the filmmaker recalled, “We never got a chance to work together. I couldn’t make a film in which I could cast him. He’s a very fine actor. In every film, he leaves a very big impact. I want to work with him but I am not getting a chance. I did go to him for Krrish 3 to play Vivek Oberoi’s role.”
“He said the story is very good and the screenplay is very good but ‘Rakesh ji mere liye ye karna thoda mushkil hoga kyunki main bhi hero hoon. Mujhe end mein maare, acha nahi lagega. Aur aap toh compromise karenge nahi (It will be difficult for me to play the part because even I am hero. If I am killed in the end, it won’t look nice and you won’t compromise on the story).’ I said, ‘Yeah, I won’t comprise, which is why I am narrating the whole script.’ He turned down the offer.”
Eventually, Vivek Oberoi stepped in to play Kaal in Krrish 3.
Krrish 3 revolves around how Krrish and his scientist father set out to save the world and their own family from an evil geneticist and his gang of mutants. Besides Hrithik Roshan, the film also features Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut.
