Vicky Kaushal opened up on his struggling days in a new interview. He also talked about how his father Sham Kaushal struggled to survive in the film industry.
Despite having a Bollywood connection, Vicky Kaushal had to go through his share of struggle and rejections to reach the place where he is today. The actor worked as an assistant director on Anurag Kashyap’s gangster drama Gangs Of Wasseypur before he made his acting debut with Neeraj Ghaywan’s Masaan. Aditya Dhar’s Uri: The Surgical Strike earned him a place in the big league and since then, there’s no looking back for the actor.
In a recent interview with Film Companion, the Govinda Naam Mera star reflected on his professional journey and shared the values instilled by his parents in him.
Vicky said, “One thing that my parents always made sure that I and Sunny both knew the difference between necessity and luxury. They always said that necessity is something that will be provided to you, but luxury is something you’ll have to earn on your own. That demarcation was always there.”
He continued, “When I was in college when I was an assistant director, we had a second car, but I wasn’t allowed to drive it… My parents have always been open about where every piece of furniture we own came from, and the hard work that goes into being able to afford things. They never hid their hardships from us. Both I and Sunny are aware of the hard work that has gone into the success that we’re seeing now, by god’s grace.”
The Bollywood star also acknowledged the fact that, unlike other aspiring actors who struggle to pay rent and migrated from small towns, he had a house to live in and food to eat when he entered the film industry. He said that his father Sham Kaushal told him that he will have to work doubly hard to win that race, because his competitors) will be trying to survive, and that instinct is always going to surpass his passion.
Further, Vicky also recalled how his father struggled to survive as a stuntman in the film industry before he became a renowned action director.
The actor said that back in those, there were hardly any safety precautions on sets, yet his father did what all it took to feed his family.
“He’s lit himself on fire, he’s fallen off 10-storey buildings, there were no safety measures… He’s done all of that. The other day, he was telling me, the first time he rode a horse, he didn’t know how to. But if he hadn’t, he wouldn’t have been paid. He fell, and he fractured his hand. But he didn’t have the money to get it treated because he needed food. So, the bone is still broken,” Vicky shared in his interview.
On the film front, Vicky Kaushal was last seen in Zara Hatke Zara Bachke alongside Sara Ali Khan. The film was a box office hit.
