Vicky Kaushal at a recent event, opened up on the box office clash of his upcoming film Sam Bahadur with Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal.
After Raazi (2018), Vicky Kaushal and director Meghna Gulzar are reuniting for Sam Bahadur, a biopic on Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. On Friday (October 13, 2023), the makers unveiled the teaser of the much anticipated film at an event in Mumbai.
While Sam Bahadur is slated to hit the big screens on December 1, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s upcoming directorial Animal starring Ranbir Kapoor will also be releasing in cinema halls on the same day. At the teaser launch event of Sam Bahadur, Vicky addressed the box office clash between both these movies.
Speaking about how there is enough room for both, Sam Bahadur and Animal to breathe and find success, the ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke’ actor said, “On that Friday, we both (Ranbir and I) are going to hand over our films to the audience. So that Friday is going to be the audiences’ day more than our day. Today, we as an industry should give the option of multiple films on the same day to the audience, that’s how we are going to flourish as an industry.
He continued, “We have only these many weeks in a year, but we as an industry can’t limit ourselves to making only those many films a year. We will have multiple films and releases on the same day and we want to build an atmosphere where multiple films can work together.”
Vicky told the reporters that his belief in multiple films releasing in the same day and doing good stems from the “strength in the audience” and also the exhibition sector. He said that today, if the films releasing on the same day resonate with the audience, they will find success irrespective of the box office clash.
The actor said, “If the audience resonates with the films, both the films will work. I’m as excited for Animal as anyone else. It should be a great day for the audience, we work for that, not for each other.”
Besides Vicky Kaushal, Sam Bahadur also features Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh. On the other hand, Animal has Ranbir Kapoor sharing screen space with Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor.
