Vicky Kaushal shared what went behind his iconic ‘Ye Dukh Kaahe’ scene from Neeraj Ghaywan’s Masaan.
Vicky Kaushal first caught everyone’s attention with his heart-wrenching performance as Deepak Kumar in Neeraj Ghaywan’s Masaan in 2015. Who can forget the iconic ‘yeh dukh kaahe khatam nahi hota’ moment from the film where the actor left everyone teary-eyed!
Recently, when Vicky graced the first episode of Nikhil Taneja’s ‘Be A Man, Yaar’, the actor opened up on his process of getting into the skin of his character and delivering that unforgettable scene in the film where his character breaks down after his lover’s death.
Vicky shared that he faked his mother’s demise to get that sequence right. The Zara Hatke Zara Bachke star revealed that he spent an hour sitting by the banks of the Ganges and imagined that his mother’s passing away.
The actor said, “In my mind, when I returned from shooting Masaan, my mother wouldn’t be there anymore, and people would tell me, ‘Your first film was being shot, and we didn’t want to tell you because we didn’t want to disrupt your work.’ I crafted an entire story in which it had been 20 days since my mother’s passing, and no one had informed me, and everything had already been done, leaving me with nothing.”
Vicky further revealed that this viral scene was originally meant to conclude with the line, “Yaar saale, ye dukh kaahe nahi khatam hota be…‘ and the breaking down of his character wasn’t a part of the plan.
“Because I had already been holding onto those emotions, what happened next was unplanned. A train passed by behind us, and I was drunk and I began reciting the lines that Shalu’s character had spoken in the film, ‘Tu kisi rail si guzar ti hai… aur mein kisi phulla sa thar-tharata hoon…‘ and then I started saying with everything Shalu had said,” he further added.
On the film front, Vicky is currently awaiting the release of his upcoming film, The Great Indian Family in which he is paired opposite Manushi Chhillar.
