Tovino Thomas, in one of his recent interviews, opened up on working in pan-Indian films. The actor also added that his intention is to keep doing good work in Malayalam cinema.
Tovino Thomas is one of the most popular actors in Malayalam cinema who has earned a solid fanbase over the years with films like Mayaanadhi, Ennu Ninte Moideen, Uyare, Virus, Forensic, Minnale Murali and Thallumaala, to name a few.
However, he isn’t keen to jump the pan-Indian films bandwagon yet. Instead, the actor says that he would be happy if he is one of the reasons for the growth of Malayalam cinema.
In a chat with India Today, the Thallumaala actor said, “I would love for the audience to watch my films. If people around the world are watching my Malayalam films and loving them, then I consider myself blessed. I’m not going to intentionally seek out a ‘pan-Indian film’. My intention is to work in Malayalam cinema and I’ll just keep doing my work. I want to be part of good Malayalam movies. If I am one of the reasons for the growth of Malayalam cinema, I’ll be happy.”
On being asked if he is interested to work in other film industries like some of his contemporaries (Fahadh Faasil, Dulquer Salmaan), Tovino replied, “All film industries, be it Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu or Tamil, have some fantastic actors. If there is a character that no other actor can play but me, then yes, I would do that role. There has to be a strong reason why I am being approached for a role in another industry. I need to be convinced.”
In the same interview, Tovino also dropped a hint about a sequel to Minnal Murali being on the cards. “It will definitely happen, it’s just a matter of when. Right now, Basil Joseph is also busy enjoying parenthood and his work. Minnal Murali happened organically and this one will also happen when the time is right,” the actor shared with the publication.
Currently, Tovino Thomas is awaiting the release of his upcoming film, Jude Anthany Joseph’s 2018.
