Guddu Dhanoa recalled how Sunny Deol and his co-star Amrish Puri ended up getting injured during the filming of Jaal.

In his career spanning over four decades, Sunny Deol has established himself as an action star whose ‘dishoom-dishoom’ on screen always draws claps and whistles from the audience. However, the actor, who has many iconic action sequences to his credit, too have had his vulnerable moments behind the scenes.

Recently in an interview with Friday Talkies, director Guddu Dhanoa who worked with Sunny on films like Ziddi and Salaakhein, recalled how the actor and his co-star Amrish Puri injured themselves when they were filming a motorcycle sequence in Manali for Jaal: The Trap (2003).

Dhanoa shared, “To shoot such scenes, we often fix a machine in the motorcycle so that the actor can focus on his dialogues and doesn’t have to ride the bike. During the scene, the motorcycle went down. Due to this, Amrish ji fell on ground, while Sunny was dragged by the bike for some distance.”

He continued, “I rushed to Sunny and asked him if he was alright. He said, ‘I am okay. Please go check on Amrish ji.’ I went to Amrish sir and saw him lying on the ground. His eyes were completely damaged.”

The filmmaker immediately rushed the veteran actor to an army hospital in Manali.

“I had formed a relationship with Amrish ji as he guided me since my first film as a director. We were more like father-son. I didn’t have the courage to go see him after that accident. His eyes had bandages over it. When I went to him, I held his hands. And as soon as I held his hands, he recognised me and said, ‘Guddu, everything will be alright,” he told the portal.

Dhanoa said that he was disappointed when Jaal flopped at the box office despite all the hard work and efforts.

Besides Sunny Deol and Amrish Puri, Jaal also features Tabu and Reema Sen in pivotal roles. The action thriller revolves around a commander who is forced to kidnap home minister’s daughter to free his lady love from the clutches of terrorists.
