Amar Kaushik who recently helmed Rajkummar Rao-Shraddha Kapoor starrer Stree 2, opened up on Tamannaah Bhatia’s casting in the film.
Rajkummar Rao-Shraddha Kapoor’s horror comedy, Stree 2 is unstoppable at the box office. One of the talking points of the film is Tamannaah Bhatia’s cameo as Rudra (Pankaj Tripathi)’s lover Shama. In a recent interview, the film’s director Amar Kaushik revealed that he was initially nervous about approaching Tamannaah because her role required to be shown as bald in the climax sequence.
Talking about getting Tamannaah onboard, Kaushik told India Today, “Just like the first film, the script demanded us to have a dance number like Nora’s. But this time around, we wanted to ensure that the dance is not just dance but it has to have some meaning. The story developed in a way where we thought of introducing Shama and then the idea was to get someone on board who can dance well and is also a good actress.”
The filmmaker said that they had two-three names in their mind for this role, adding that Tamannaah had previously done a show with Maddock and they thought that she was the ‘right’ person to play Shama. However, he was hesitant to approach her.
Explaining the reason behind the same, he shared, “I was a little hesitant to ask her because the character must be shown bald in the climax sequence. I approached her, and she was very cool about it. She did not even question the scene and was okay with shedding the vanity. When the actors come up with this energy, it works, and everyone is talking about the role.”
Stree 2 boosts of an ensemble cast which includes Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurrana and Abhishek Banerjee along with some interesting cameos by Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan and Tamannaah Bhatia. The film is a follow-up post Stree, and revolves around a group of friends who must fight a headless entity who abducts women in Chanderi.
