Aamir Khan’s cousin and filmmaker Mansoor Khan shared how RRR director SS Rajamouli reacted after watching Laal Singh Chaddha.
Aamir Khan-Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer Laal Singh Chaddha was one of the most anticipated films of 2022. Unfortunately, the film upon its theatrical release failed to impress the critics and the audience alike. The Advait Chandan directorial was an Indian adaptation of Tom Hanks’ cult classic Forrest Gump.
Recently, in a new interview, Aamir’s cousin and filmmaker Mansoor Khan shared that the actor thought that he must have really overacted in Laal Singh Chaddha when SS Rajamouli told him so about his performance in the film.
Mansoor, in a chat with PTI, said that he had earlier pointed out to Aamir that his expressions were ‘over the top’ in Laal Singh Chaddha. However, when SS Rajamouli, who is known for his larger-than-life films, shared a similar feedback to the Ghajini star, it really hit home.
Recalling his conversation with Aamir, Mansoor told the news agency, “Aamir has a great sense of humour. So one day he laughingly tells me, ‘When you told me it was over the top, I said, ok, you are a subtle guy, which is why you might have felt that way. But when someone like Rajamouli tells me overacting lag raha hai, I said to myself, isko bhi lag raha hai toh kiya hi hoga (If he also feels so than it must be).”
The filmmaker said that he was ‘frank enough’ to give Aamir his feedback well before others, adding that he liked the script and thought that Atul Kulkarni had done a fine job with it.
“Yes, Aamir, I believe, went over the top with his expressions. I mean the character is not a jerk, not someone suffering with dyslexia or anything else. He is a bit odd … but that’s about it. I loved Tom Hanks in the original (Forrest Gump), he was so minimal with his expressions and portrayal of the character. Of course, I did tell this to Aamir.”
Mansoor further said that Aamir has always been of the opinion that a “good movie will work come what may” and recalled how the actor had told him that if his film is good, it will work despite the boycott calls.
“The failure of Laal Singh Chaddha was indeed a setback for him but then he has faced many such setbacks in his life — both professional and personal. He is very passionate about cinema and is motivated to work harder,” the filmmaker told the news agency.
Mansoor Khan is known for helming films like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Jo Jeeta Woh Sikander, Akele Hum Akele Tum and Josh, amongst others.
