Sobhita Dhulipala spoke about how she dealt with mean comments about her complexion at the beginning of her career.
After being crowned Miss India Earth 2013 and dabbling with modelling, Sobhita Dhulipala made her big screen debut with Anurag Kashyap’s 2016 crime thriller Raman Raghav 2.0 alongside Vicky Kaushal and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Recently, in an interview with a leading publication, the Made In Heaven actress talked about dealing with mean comments about her complexion and face during the early days of her career.
Sobhita shared that during her advertising days, she was told many times that she was not fair enough or that she wasn’t pretty enough. However, that didn’t deter her from pursuing her acting dreams. The Kurup actress said that these things only made her realize that people’s perception of beauty was simply ‘narrow’.
Sobhita told Indian Express, “When you are starting out, everything is a battle. I am not from the movies. I remember in my ad auditions I was told many times that I am not ‘gori’ (fair) enough. There were these things which you see at ad level, where I was told to my face that I am not pretty enough. Not that I was (dejected).”
The actress recalled how she began to brainstorm ways in which she could be more creative and still be a part of this industry despite what people thought of her looks, as she was quite passionate about it.
“That’s when you start thinking out of the box, instead of waiting for a brilliant successful commercial filmmaker to ‘discover’ you. What is in my control is to go for auditions, give my 100 percent,” the news portal quoted her as saying.
Speaking about work, Sobhita Dhulipala was last seen in Mani Ratnam’s period epic Ponniyin Selvan 2 which also starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi and Aishwarya Lekshmi. She is now gearing up for the release of Disney+Hotstar’s The Night Manager Part 2 in which she shares screen space with Aditya Roy Kapur and Anil Kapoor.
