Shilpa Shetty opened up on how ‘Dhadkan’ director Dharmesh Darshan was miffed with her when she chose to do ‘Main Aayi Hoon UP Bihar Lootne’ song for Shool when the shooting of Dhadkan was stalled.

Shilpa Shetty has been a part of many iconic songs in her three-decade long career in Hindi cinema. Speaking about one of them, who can forget her ‘thumkas’ in the popular ‘Main Aayi Hoon UP Bihar Lootne’ song from Shool?

In a recent interview with a publication, Shilpa shared how ‘Dhadkan’ director Dharmesh Darshan was upset with her for choosing to do this track while the shooting for Dhadkan was stalled. She further added that she was unsure whether the film would be made.

In a recent interview, Shilpa opened up about how filmmaker Dharmesh Darshan was upset with her for doing an ‘item number’ titled “Main Aayi Hoon UP Bihar Lootne” in the film Shool (1999), while the shooting for Dhadkan (2000) was stalled, and she was not sure whether the film would be made.

Shilpa told Zoom, “I went through a personal and a professional low at a time and I remember I used that time to learn make-up, I used that time to better and improve myself, and I did whatever came (to me). So, I remember there was a time when Dhadkan was stalled and was not going to happen, and I got offered ‘UP Bihar…’ I didn’t know when it was going to be made because the director was working on another project, he didn’t say that he wasn’t making it, but I knew it would take a couple of years. So, I said ‘now what’?”

Talking about how Dharmesh Darshan was miffed with her, she continued, “He was very upset when I decided to take up ‘UP Bihar…’ and thank God I did, because it brought me back in the news. But my director Dharmesh ji, I remember was very upset because Anjali, the character (in Dhadkan) was someone who was supposed to be very classy and cannot be a nautch girl. With due respect to him, I felt it was a decision I should take in my life. And in life, if people follow their convictions and instincts, then they’ll be able to achieve a lot, because I feel we underestimate the power of our instincts.”

Shilpa told the portal that after featuring this dance track, she was tagged as an item girl for two years, but it worked for her because she landed many shows. After two years, when Dhadkan became a huge hit, people forgot that (the song) and only remembered her character in that film. The actress added that while her films might or might not have worked, her songs have always been huge hits.

Further, Shilpa said that she is where she is today, because of those songs, and that she can’t underdetermine or be ungrateful for the music and the power of that music in her life. The actress reasoned that  it’s very hard to be glamorous and at the same time play a bimbette and be convincing at that when one isn’t that. So, she had to work really hard.

Shilpa Shetty is currently awaiting the release of her upcoming film Sukhee which also features Kusha Kapila.
