In a new interview, Madhoo of ‘Roja’ fame revealed that she rejected Shah Rukh Khan’s 1993 romantic thriller, Baazigar.

One of the most popular leading ladies of the 90s, Madhoo, in a new interview revealed that she was approached for the role of Seema Chopra in Abbas Mustan’s hit film, Baazigar.

However, she turned down the offer as she was doing some other movie. Eventually, this part went to Shilpa Shetty who made her big screen debut with this Shah Rukh Khan starrer.

While speaking with ETimes, on being asked if she rejected any Bollywood films, Madhoo shared, “In those days, I was very busy and there were quite a few Bollywood offers that I could not take up. I could not do a Hindi film because I was busy doing a Tamil film, and vice versa. In fact, because I was focused on five film industries (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada), I never did more than one film at a time. I was busy doing films in all the states and I had no regrets.”

She continued, “I had to reject Baazigar. I was offered Shilpa Shetty’s role, but as I said, I have no regrets at all. I didn’t do Baazigar because I was doing some other movie. I don’t want to erase any experiences in life.”

In the same interview, the Roja actress also talked about crushing on Shah Rukh Khan. Calling herself his biggest fan, she said that his charisma, the way he does things on screen and what he represents, appeals to her. She further added that King Khan is just like a God even when his films flop or he does horrible work.

Madhoo made her Bollywood debut with Ajay Devgn’s Phool Aur Kaante in 1991. The actress recalled her experience of working on this film and shared, “Ajay had a nice group. It was all his fight masters and fighter friends on the sets. He was being trained for the film under the guidance of his father Veeru Devgn ji. He was not a nervous newcomer, and for some reason, I wasn’t one either.”

Madhoo admitted that she would have felt nervous if she was working with established stars like Govinda, Anil Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and Jackie Shroff. However, since she and Ajay studied in the same college (Mithibai college), they shared that ‘Juhu’ vibe. Also, Veeru Devgn was Madhoo’s father’s friend. According to the actress, working on Phool Aur Kaante was like meeting friends and that worked in her favour.

Madhoo was recently seen in Samantha’s mythological drama, Shaakuntalam in which she essayed the role of Menaka.
