Shahid Kapoor, in a recent interview, admitted that he gets upset when people assume that his actor-father Pankaj Kapur helped him to get into the film industry.
Shahid Kapoor made a smashing debut in Hindi cinema with Ken Ghosh’s campus romance Ishq Vishk in 2003. In a career spanning over two decades, the actor dabbled with different genres, delivered several hits and established himself as one of the most popular actors in Bollywood.
In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, the Udta Punjab actor looked back at his journey and spoke about how contrary to people’s assumptions, it has not been easy for him despite his father being an actor in the film industry.
Shahid admitted that he gets bothered when people think of him as a product of nepotism when he began his journey in the film industry two decades ago and had to go through his share of struggle.
The Bollywood star told the portal, “I’m one of those self-made guys who people think because his papa was an actor, he got it easy. And I get very upset with that. I’m like ‘hey guys, you don’t know my struggle’. Just because my father was Pankaj Kapur doesn’t mean that I had it easy because I didn’t even live with him. I lived with my mom.”
He further added, ” He (Pankaj) was a very proud man. He would never tell his son ki mein yaha call kar deta hoon, jaake unse mil le. He was not like that. He was like I struggled my way up and I was too proud to ask him also ever for any support. In fact, I never even brought it up with him neither did he ever ask me. It just never came up. So of course, it has been 20 years of a lot of work.”
Workwise, Shahid Kapoor is currently looking forward to his upcoming release, Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bloody Daddy which is slated to premiere on June 9 on Jio Cinema.
